06/26-06/29: STC at Velo-city Global 2012 in Vancouver

Smarter Than Car will be participating in the Velo-city global 2012 conference taking place in Vancouver Canada from June 26-29 this year.

Smarter Than Car's researcher Florian Lorenz will be presenting a latest version of STC's work on bicycle urbanism. The piece which has been worked out by Shannon Bufton and Florian Lorenz is called "Beijing's pedal-powered livelihoods as a muse for bicycle urbanism" and explores the potentials of pedal-powered vehicles to restructure urban landscapes as socially just, environmentally benign and culturally vibrant spaces. The presentation will merge the models which can be derived from Beijing's diverse bicycle culture with examples of contemporary pedal-based livelihoods across the globe. In this way we aim at developing bicycle urbanism strategies for creating urban environments vibrant with bicycle cultural life.

With the participation at Velo-city global 2012 and our presentation we want to discuss the concept of bicycle urbanism with a wider audience as we see bicycle urbanism as a great opportunity for restructuring the contemporary city along the use of pedal-powered vehicles.
