04/22: Climate Ride
The Danish Embassy in Beijing are partnering with STC to organize a "Climate Ride" to promote green transportation.
On occasion of the Danish EU Presidency the Danish Embassy Sunday 22nd of April organised a ‘Climate Race’ in and outside Beijing to promote green transportation and solution and raise awareness of climate issues. The highlight will be a one-day bike ride in and around Beijing with more than 150 participants from Danish companies, media, Chinese officials and other EU embassies.
“By organizing this campaign we wish to communicate the progressive Danish views on energy efficiency and environment protection that China in its present 5-year plan also identifies as one of the most important policy objectives for the Chinese society,” says Friis Arne Petersen, Danish Ambassador to China.
Danish biking-culture is world-renown for its innovative approach to transportation in urban areas. In Copenhagen more than 36 % of the population commute on a daily basis by bike and there are more than 390 kilometres of designated bike lanes.
Furthermore, the Climate Race raises funds for local Chinese beneficiary organizations working with environment and bicycle advocacy and encourage the Chinese public to go ‘back to biking’ and utilize the bicycle as a means of everyday transportation instead of cars.
The campaign is one of many initiatives taking place in China during the Danish EU Presidency 2012 where one of the key topics is green growth and solutions.
The Danish Embassy donated 10,000 RMB of the money raised from the event to STC. This funding will go towards supporting our presence at Velo-city conference this year.
