STC's Talks from Velo-city Global 2012 Vancouver
This June Smarter Than Car was giving two talks at the Velo-city global 2012 conference held in Vancouver Canada. As an international cycling venue, the conference was a great opportunity for STC to connect to other (bi)cycling advocacy initiatives from around the globe and to discuss STC’ lectures and ideas with an international audience committed to push urban (bi)cycling forward. The only expectation which was not fulfilled entirely was to meet more small-scale and innovative cycling advocacy groups.
For the presentations STC gave at Velo-city in Vancouver we were glad to reach this audience and to get feedback from a crowd entirely sourced from cycling-related individuals. STC’s presentations were both authored by STC’s Florian Lorenz and Shannon Bufton.
The first talk given on the opening day of Velo-city global 2012 was presenting the cycling advocacy work of STC done in Beijing, China. With presenting the challenges for (bi)cycling advocacy to a mostly North-American audience and also talking about the new emerging bicycle culture in Beijing, STC also gained some media attention at the same das. If you want to read more about this talk, please refer to the links below to obtain a copy of the presentation.
The second talk on the closing day of Velo-city 2012 put forward STC’s ideas on (bi)cycle urbanism to an international audience. The talk was embedded in a great panel session with the other two presentations originating from Canada and Singapore. The discussion after the panel was lively and also some interest arose for specifically STC’s slides to be shared. So here they are.

On a concluding note to Velo-city 2012 we hope to see more small-scale innovative (bi)cycling initiatives from all around the globe at the next Velo-city conference where STC will ideally be participating with new info and work to be shared among an international crowd. From the side of Smarter Than Car, we want to express our gratitude to the Danish Embassy in Beijing for financially supporting STC's participation at Velo-city 2012 in Vancouver.
